This book addresses a difficult but pertinent subject matter that is long overdue. As an inner city practicing physician specializing in internal medicine, hypertension and kidney disease, each day I encounter the challenges of the sexuality of the Black male. As most people now know, Blacks in general, but Black males in particular, are affected by a higher incidence of many illnesses than are whites and generally with a greater severity. Many of these disease entities have a direct or indirect influence on a male's ability to carry out sexual function. Dr. Milligan astutely speaks to each of these issues in an easily readable, clear and understandable manner. She clearly presents material that outlines the physiologic mechanisms that are associated with the sexual act and physical responses of both sexes that lead to a satisfying relationship, but more important in a very sensitive and insightful way, she identifies and adds an expansion on what I think is the key area of relevance, that of the effect of psychology, socio-economic and health on the sexuality of the Black male.
In recent years, science and medicine have accepted the evidence as fact that there is a clear relationship between the psyche and physiologic function. This book effectively talks about how our history of Black male oppression may play an active role in Black male relationships with, not only Black and White women, but with other people in general - especially family. The author suggests that society has inculcated both the Black man and society in general, into the mythical belief that he, the Black man, is a sexual animal or stud. When this normal, healthy man finds that he is "only" human, not super human in bed, it only adds another failure to his already heavy burden of feelings of inadequacy resulting from social and economic insecurity. This results in difficult sexual relations which negatively impacts all of his relationships with women. Dr. Milligan speaks of a self-fulfilling prophecy that can create either dysfunction in sexuality or, at the very least, vastly unsatisfactory male-female relationships. A key section of this book deals with the effect of sexual ability of a number of diseases and their respective therapies. Most notably, the author speaks of how many Black men forego their anti-hypertensive medication for fear that their sexual ability will be decreased. Newer medications have overcome several of these problems which have previously resulted in impotence for many individuals. This book covers a broad area where there previously existed a gap of reliable information. Of importance is not only the scientific and literary validation provided, but the historical perspective maintained throughout. It is a must read for all health professionals and any person of any color involved with life. (Randall W. The mother of three entrepreneurs, Dr. Milligan lectures nationally on economic empowerment, managing diversity in the work place and male/female relationships. A successful motivational speaker and trainer, Dr. Milligan has appeared on numerous television and radio shows including: Sally Jesse Raphael, People Are Talking, Maury Povich and Marilyn Kagan. She is also a regular guest on KJLH radio in Los Angeles. Dr. Milligan is the author of eight books.

The Black man's sexuality is a subject that I have wanted to address for decades. However, I chose to address the Black woman's sexuality first, because most divorces and separations among Black families are initiated by the Black woman.
Based on my research, I have found that sexual chaos and bedroom turmoil are among the leading forces contributing to the high divorce rate in our society as a whole. Sex is not a cure, but it can soothe the pain. Sex has a profound effect on our lives and influences almost everything we do. It impacts how we rear our children, relate to the significant male in our lives, and how we interact with our colleagues in the work place. Therefore, I believe it is high time that we address it head on with honesty and open mindedness.
When married couples enter the divorce court for a divorce decree, the divorce is granted based on irreconcilable differences. It would be interesting to hear responses if the judges required couples to explain their irreconcilable differences. If sex was not a taboo subject, I would guarantee you that many would say, "I am sexually frustrated." This is best exemplified in an article written by Susan Jacoby in the December, 1991 issue of New Woman Magazine where a married woman shared her frustration as she states: I would feel angry and deprived but I would never admit it had anything to do with sex. Instead, I would explode at him about something totally unrelated. I hated myself and I had a kind of contempt for him because he had not figured out what I wanted without my telling him. Finally, when I couldn't stand it anymore, I told him the truth and he walked out on me.
The lack of understanding regarding the Black man's sexuality and factors that impact the Black man's sexuality are causing serious problems within the Black community. The community as a whole is being jeopardized because of "Sexuality Confusion." My objective for dealing with the subject of the Black man's sexuality is to give credence to the fact that a problem does exist. And to provide a catalyst for open dialogue in hopes that Blacks will develop a greater sensitivity towards each other and the walls that have destroyed the Black family structure can be torn down so that healing, restoration and unification of the Black race can take hold again.
The purpose of this book is not to cast blame nor to point fingers at the Black male nor female, but to show how the Eurocentric belief and value systems forced upon us have lead to this state of confusion and therefore separation. We must realize that the solution to our dilemma begins with understanding who we are as a people, how we got to this present state in the first place, and how we can work it out within ourselves by establishing our own value and belief systems and reclaiming our culture. We must realize that Blacks are unique and not Ebony European clones. The Black experience is different, therefore, our sexuality is different.
Knowing that sex is a dominating factor in our lives, that moving force that keeps us going, an obscure, paradoxical and biological necessity that dominates and impacts our lives in every way, I am compelled to research and address it wholeheartedly in hopes of bringing Black people out of darkness and confusion and into complete understanding and awareness of Black sexuality.

I have read Peter Swanson's The Kind Worth Killing and very much enjoyed it. I liked it so much that it is the reason I read Before She Knew Him. I think this book is even better. Anyone who likes a mystery will like this book. I don't usually put much time in trying to figure out an ending. Sometimes the ending is so obvious that it makes the book too predictable to enjoy. I did not see this ending coming. I read other reviews that said there were clues that gave away the ending. I must be too dense to have seen them. I found the ending unexpected. Again, if you like a good mystery, you will enjoy reading Before She Knew Him.
Two married couples meet and realize they have a lot in common. Until they don't. What starts out as a possible budding friendship quickly becomes a game of cat and mouse. A chance meeting leads to a dinner which leads to a suspicion of murder.

It's been done to death as of late. Instead her character sank to a whole new level of bad decisions and emotional instability, as she continuously took risks, placing herself in dangerous situations, falsely believing that she was safe.The majority of the twists left me stunned and excited, wanting more, except for the reveal at the 70% mark which was somewhat deflating, and in my opinion not needed. There sits an object that she thinks went missing with the murder of a young man who was killed two years ago.During her frenetic episodes years earlier she became obsessed with unsolved crimes.Could her neighbor be a killer? Or is this the beginning of another psychotic episode like the one she suffered back in college, when she became so consumed with proving a fellow student guilty that she ended up hurting a classmate?She spends time watching him, only to find him watching her. Is she in danger because of what she knows ... or is this just another part of her psychosis?This is a real page-turner with stand-out characters that are memorable. The story premise is a good one, with many twists and turns along the way to a surprising ending.
Hen (short for Henrietta) and her husband Lloyd have just moved into a new house just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. They start to meet their neighbors shortly after moving in as a normal activity for people changing into a new environment. Hen is an illustrator, and a fairly successful one. She is bipolar and has had a bad experience some years ago with a murder of someone that was close to her at that point. But she seems to be on the right meds with her condition controlled and has found happiness with Lloyd and with her work. This was until she and Lloyd in their process of meeting neighbors are invited to Matthew and his wife's home. Hen sees a sports trophy displayed which she is sure belonged to the person murdered years ago and realizes that Matthew is probably the murderer. Certainly this recognition would normally provide the ingredients of a great story with Hen reporting her suspicions to the police and than later confronting Matthew as he actually murders another man. But Mr Swanson takes us far beyond one crime as the reader is introduced to Matthew's psychotic brother Richard, Lloyd's affair with another woman and her murder, and a probable description of the crime occurring years ago that Hen was privy to. A convoluted set of events certainly but put together by a master of the genre and bringing a great story and some sleepless nights to a fascinated reader. The ending is not broadcast but is logical based on events described with further books by Mr Swanson eagerly awaited.

About the Authors Zhi-Pei Liang is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Dr. Liang has contributed to the theory and applications of image reconstruction, constrained imaging, and image analysis. He received the Sylvia Sorkin Greenfield Best Paper Award of the Medical Physics Journal in 1990 and the National Science Foundation Career Award in 1995. Dr. Liang was named a Beckman Fellow of the UIUC Center for Advanced Study in 1997 and a Henry Magnuski Scholar for Outstanding Young Faculty Member in the ECE Department in 1999. Paul C. Lauterbur is a Center-for-Advanced-Study professor of Medical Information Sciences, Chemistry, and Molecular and Integrative Physiology and professor in the Center for Biophysics and Computational Biology, the Bioengineering Program, and the Beckman Institute all at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before conceiving of and demonstrating magnetic resonance imaging in 1971 1972, Dr. Lauterbur used nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to study molecular structures. Among his numerous awards are the 1987 National Medal of Science, 1990 Bower Award and Prize for Achievement in Science, and 1994 Kyoto Prize for Advanced Technology. First let me describe the book as to its production quality. This is one of the typical IEEE productions, namely the paper quality is on par with your local newspaper, the binding cracks upon opening, and they have the annoying "enhancements" of shading examples in gray which often makes them unreadable. I have had this problem with most IEEE books and for the price they charge they should at least provide some quality in production.Now to the content. The authors provide a comprehensive and detailed analysis of MRI and signal processing.My concerns relate to the following issues:1. MRI can be quite difficult. The reader must first understand the physics, then the signaling to effect a response signal, then the modulation of the response so as to select voxels to be detected, and then the Fourier analysis which produces the image. The reader, if approaching this for the first time, even a well educated signal processing engineer, should have a pathway to follow. The authors fail in this element. All the information is there, yet one must construct the framework.2. Certain equations are critical. Others take one along the path. For example, Eq 3.150 and 3.154 are essential. They are what makes MRI. However the authors just slide from one to the other and then from Eq 4.1-4.5 use these without regard to a reasonable transition. They introduce a function M, and one suspects it may be M(w) or M(z) or M(t). Having taught material like this at MIT and written books on the subject of signal processing, one must be careful to delineate key transitions and important equations.3. The authors have lots of equations but one gets lost in which ones count and how one should follow the "bread crumbs" to use a metaphor. The classic book by Van Trees on Detection and Estimation was the "gold standard" for taking the reader and/or student along the path and delineating key points and conclusions. In this text the authors just seem to jumble every equation together with equal value.4. The heart of MRI is the signals used to do phase and frequency transitions across the elements to be processed. The discussion in this book regarding that is, I feel, quite weak. One should be given a good intuitive feeling and then apply the mathematics. As I have often told my students, first explain what is happening and then apply the mathematics to "pretty it up". Here the authors have almost bludgeoned the reader with mathematics.The book contains great pearls, yet the quality of the printing, not the authors' fault, and the jumbling of every equation possible, leaves the reader wondering. A better press, publisher, and a rewrite with focus and builds of ideas would make this a great and much needed contribution to the field. It is clear that the authors know their material, it just needs fine tuning.

it is a new book, and it is very useful so actually everything is fine except that I waited for about 1 month.
The book is claimed to be new, but it looks like a copy instead. The figures printing is really poor, the paper quality is completely different from the original one that my friends have.
The selection of the chapters and the overall coverage of this book are excellent. It provides an outstanding and detailed description of MR physics and of how MR signals are generated and processed. However, not being an engineer or a physicist but a MD interested in MRI, I had some problems with the mathematical background required to understand the formulas used in this book. I feel that the book would be greatly improved if a more detailed explanation to the mathematics were given. At this point, I would recommend this book to graduate students or Ph.D.'s in physics, in biomedical or in electrical engineering, who want to understand in detail the principles of MR signal generation and processing. Because of the somewhat complicated mathematics, the book might be somewhat less destined, but still of interest, to radiologists and MRI physicians who, like me, want to enhance their understanding of MR physics and signal processing.

This is an excellent textbook. Easy to follow if you are comfortable with Electromagnetics already. Lot's of math and examples inside. Make sure u get this book first, if you study MRI.

From buying a computer, learning how to use it and selecting an Internet service provider, to signing up for an online trading account, setting up short- and long-term financial plans, learning about bonds, stocks, futures, options, mutual funds and other investments, this is a whirlwind guide in 128 pages. To cover such vast territory in a breezy, easy-to-read manner, Cotsakos sacrifices explanations and theory. For example, he instructs the reader to take the book to a local computer retailer and show the salesperson his specifications for a computer system. The option chapter lists the terms you need to know to understand options, but does not define them, nor does it deal with how options are priced or traded. It does, however, give detailed instructions on how to fill out E*Trade's option order entry screen. There are some obvious problems with this approach. It teaches how to trade aggressively, without imparting the knowledge necessary to trade intelligently. As computer technology advances and E*Trade redesigns its screens, the book will quickly fall out of date. However, it will still be useful to those who already know most of what's in it, but want an accessible, comprehensive guide to fill in the gaps. 4-city author; 15-city NPR campaign. We were Paratroopers together with the 2nd Brigade Infantry of the 101st, Airborne Div. We were Screaming Eagles.We were in the states together, and went to the Nam together. We were in the same Company, we went thru the Tetoffensive together. We lost so many people, our friends and fellow soldiers, that they took our unit off of jump status,because we did not have enough qualified sky soldiers. Chris was an excellent field trooper, wounded and decoratedfor bravery.Besides being a hero and a solid citizen, he is very smart. I am very proud to call Christos my friend.
As others have stated the book is little more than a 200 page advertisement for e-trade.I read the book because I know very little about investing in the stock market and I would like to learn.Even as god awful new to the stock market I am, I learned almost nothing from the book. Many of his descriptions of the way things are "Why do companies go public?" were oversimplified to the point of being wrong.I went into the book with a bunch of questions and left will all of the same questions.At best the only thing the book does is convince you to invest money in the stock market through E-trade.If you are going to trade online, the $13 per trade commission E-Trade charges you is much higher than the $7/trade rate offered by Scottrade, or the $10/trade Ameritrade offers but you won't find that in the book.If you want to learn about the stock market, I would recommend instead Jim Cramer's 'Mad Money' or 'Sane Investing in an Insane World'.If you managed to make it here to read this review then it is a fair bet you already know everything 'It's Your Money' has to say. The book is really that worthless.

This is the first book of online investing I read. It is an older book but it is the Best first book to read before you risk your own money in the market. It is a great step-by-step guide that explains the different kind of trades. You can skip the first few chapters as they're related to setting up your computer and to access the internet.

I guess some applies but if your new to self guided investments consider how market dynamics have changed dramatically since this book was written .Also E*Trade has a new CEO -Still some good basic knowledge for short money & it makes a good bathroom reader for guests
Didn't know anything about online trading. This book explains it as described "step by step". Also got it at a great price.
For the price, this book is a great start for the starter investor. Although, it's outdated it is great knowledge. I received the package in a few days and the book was in great shape.
